Hollywood movies!
Have
Hollywood attitudes towards content in 12A films become more liberal or have
audiences’ film desires changed?
In class
we discussed this question, that why are the big Hollywood institutions trying
to fit content which should be in a 15 rated movie into a 12A. The main reason
of the debate was that why are they doing that? In the group we all come up
with this that the reason why the institutions are doing that is because they
want to make more money that’s why they are fitting content from 15 rated films
into a 12A. They know that if they put 15 rated content into a 12 rated, they
would get a much bigger audience, as the film would be available for a wide
audience to watch. That is the main reason why they are doing this so that they
could attract the younger audience more to go and watch the film, as they know
that the younger audience are the people who go to the cinemas the most.
We don’t think
that the audience’s desires are changed, but as the institutions are making 15
rated films into a 12, the audience would keep on expecting more and more. This
means that the audience’s expectations from a 12 rated film would increase
slowly. Maybe in 10 years’ time the audience might want to see sexual content
in a 12 rated film, as their expectations will increase during the period of
time.
